From early-morning yoga to performances including John Luther Adams’ Become Ocean by The Chelsea Symphony and The Umbrella Project by Pilobolus, visitors enjoy a Museum-wide festival of art, science, and culture in honor of Earth Day. Renowned artists and scholars join scientists for critical conversations on sustaining the beautiful planet we call home. Visitors will see pop-up performances by Fela!’s Abena Koomson-Davis, Martha Redbone, Ashley Jackson, and the Secret Drum Band, view films and art installations, and more.
- Flora and Fauna - 4:00pm in the Hall of Biodiversity
In this pop-up installation of dance and technology, projected images of flora and fauna shift across the bodies and entwined shapes of Pilobolus dancers, enlivening the hall of biodiversity with a communion between art and nature.
- The Umbrella Project - 4:45, 5:25, and 6:00pm in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life
Join Pilobolus beneath the famed blue whale in The Umbrella Project, a community art experience powered by crowd collaboration – perfect for all ages. Participants use LED umbrellas to light up the Hall as a vibrant, living sea. Overhead screens stream a live video feed of the movements and patterns of the crowd below, showcasing the colorful creation in action. Non-participants are welcome to attend and behold the power of their community in motion!
